Genetics plays a very important role in the screening and treatment of colon cancer,  familial adenomatous polyposis and desmoid tumors, and they are all connected through mutations in the same gene that can cause all three,  the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene.

At times it can seem that a medical degree is needed to understand and all of the genetic information related to cause, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. In this section we will provide easy to follow information from leading research organizations and hospitals to help explain the gene mutations, the importance of genetic testing for patients and their families and which genetic tests and screenings are recommended.

So grab your lab coat and clipboard, we’ll walk you through it.
